Book Review: Romans 8-16 For You

One of the most, if not the most, important disciplines for a Christian is to be in the Word of God, studying it diligently, faithfully, and to the end of applying it to life for the glory of God. Yet, all too often the people of the Word are not in the Word. Whether it is because they struggle to understand it or not, the people of God are not in the Word of God. This should not be. Indeed, it is also why I am thankful for the Good Book company and the God’s Word For You series. In their latest edition, they have brought in well-known pastor and author Tim Keller to guide us through Romans 8-16.romans 8-16 for you

With such a rich book of the Bible as Romans is, Tim Keller does an exquisite job taking us through these last nine chapters. Having written previously on Romans 1-7, Keller moves forward and displays how these truths of the gospel change our hearts and lives. Gospel-centered application abounds. Again and again, we are challenged to live out the Christian life with our motivation being the “gratitude for grace” (Keller 101).

I would be remiss if I failed to bring into the discussion Tim Keller’s treatment of Romans 9-11. A very controversial issue in some churches and among some Christians, Keller handles Romans 9-11 with humility and a faithful approach to all Scripture. He reminds his readers that while not all can be discussed in a volume like his, our response is worship to the Lord. God’s sovereignty in salvation should cause us to praise Him for His grace. Additionally, I am appreciative for the appendix where Keller goes into more detail on the doctrines of God’s sovereignty and election. For my friends who read this and are hesitant to this, I would recommend you pick up this book and read that section, even if nothing else.

Romans 8-16 for You is a profound, biblical, and fruitful resource for any Christian who wants to participate in a serious study of God’s Word. I praise God for such a resource!

I received this book for free from The Good Book Company via Cross Focused Reviews for this review. I was not required to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my own and are my honest review of the resource.
